Abstract
Plasma endothelin (ET) of rats under different hypoxic conditions was determined using radioimmunoassay technic (RIA). The plasma ET in control group(n=20), once hypoxia group(n=l7), male(n=ll) and female rats(n=9) of repeated hypoxia group were 50.29¡¾1.89, 71.25¡¾5.40, 106.11¡¾8.82 and 77.88¡¾8.49 pg/ml respectively. The plasma ET either once hypoxia or repeated hypoxia group obviously increases compared with the control group(p<0.01 or <0.001). The results showed that acute moderate hypoxia may lead to remarkable increase of plasma ET especially in male rats after repeated hypoxia. ET is the strongest and the most enduring vasoconstrictor substance that has ever been discovered. Excessive increase of ET in the body may have serious effect on cardiovascular system and cerebral microcirculation, it should be avoided as far as possible.
